Slum Village

Starting your own business and picking the right niche in no time

Chances are, if you are into the hip-hop music scene, you have heard of the influential hip-hop trio that makes up Slum Village. The group was founded in the early 90s by 3 childhood friends: Baatin, T3, rapper and producer J Dilla who continues to influence many rappers and producers to this day.

Slum Village landed their first record deal in 1998 with Barak/AM records and released many popular albums with the legendary “Fantastic Vol. 2” making one of the largest impacts and being dubbed an immediate classic from fans and industry tastemakers. This album featured an A list line up including Busta Rhymes, Common, D’angelo, Jazzy Jeff, Pete Rock, Kurupt, and Q-Tip who passed the torch to Slum Village on the record “Hold Tight”.

The group’s longevity and challenges are well known but one thing is constant, Slum Village, with Young RJ and T3 at the helm continue to represent Detroit Hip Hop and impact new audiences around the world with their captivating sound, soundtrack by Dilla’s beats.

ABOUT

When ReFab first sought funding in 1990, people laughed in founder Rae Birkan’s face. Who on earth was going to buy clothing made from — gasp! — used, old clothing? Why waste money on a company built on waste?

2018 Recap

We had an amazing time showcasing some pretty incredible local musicians, delicious food, the coolest vendors and of course our amazing host, Crowbar. This year, artists Illsol and Kelly Breez did two spectacular live art pieces that were silently auctioned at the event, with all proceeds going directly to the Ybor Chickens Society. We truly appreciate everyone that joined us and for your support!
